My first post for 2026 and whilst the title of this outburst refers to a summit we am in fact 30 kms from Australia’s highest peak.
A week ago we enjoyed three days on the coast at the village of South Durras. The campground included a pool and bistro which meant after our arrival no further driving was required.

We enjoyed two days of swimming in the ocean along with some lazy hours reading or just chilling. We returned home on a Sunday morning avoiding the afternoon rush back to Canberra to get the kids ready for school on Monday.
The campground is very family oriented with lots of teenagers and little kids everywhere. This demographic encouraged a large turn out of kangaroos who enjoyed various morsels being handed out by the kids. There were kangaroos everywhere including right at the door of our camper.

Typical of the south coast the campground also included a number of goannas one of which was a good 2 metres long. These guys are like tanks; they are not fast but they go wherever they want. Their tongue is constantly testing the air and looking for morsels of food.
We are now in the mountains enjoying a few days of bike riding. Regardless of what the naysayers might say, e-mountain bikes are so much fun. This technology ensures head winds are readily dealt with along with steep climbs and tight bends.

Our group of six comfortably managed the gravel trail from Jindabyne to the trout hatchery and back.

As expected whilst we suffered some very windy days the very best day was the day before we returned home. At least we had one outstanding day.
Next destination a tropical Pacific island for a week.
